Newport Animal Hospital has eight full-time veterinarians dedicated to providing your pets the very best healthcare throughout every stage of their lives.
Lisa Walker, DVM – Chief Veterinarian
Originally from the Boston Area, Dr. Lisa Walker attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she received a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Conservation. Following graduation, she moved to Ohio, worked in research and then went on to study Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University, graduating in 2000. Having been away from the ocean for too long, she then relocated to Rhode Island and joined The Newport Animal Hospital team in 2000 and never looked back. Her occupational interests include Soft Tissue Surgery, Dermatology and Internal Medicine. She currently resides in Newport with her husband and two Save-A-Lab rescues. She has also raised two children to adulthood, which is no small feat.
Kim Phan, DVM – Chief Veterinarian
Dr. Kim Phan is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. She attended the University of California, San Diego where she graduated with a degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology. She decided to relocate to the northeast and attended Cornell University for her DVM. Charmed by the beautiful New England coast, she decided to move to RI and joined the Newport Animal Hospital team in June of 2013. Dr. Phan’s occupational interests include Dentistry and Dermatology. She currently resides in Newport with her Bull Terrier Sherman and her cat Vinny.
Randal Wirth, DVM
Originally from upstate New York, Dr. Randall Wirth attended the University of Michigan where he received his B. S. in biology with honors in 1984. Upon graduation he attended the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University. He received his doctorate in 1989 and began practicing small animal medicine and surgery in Connecticut. In 1993 he relocated to Rhode Island and joined the staff at the Newport Animal Hospital. Dr. Wirth raised two lovely daughters and enjoys biking, hiking, and kayaking. He presently resides in Newport and shares his home with a coconut retriever named Berry.
Eric Wood, DVM
Dr. Wood attended The University of Rhode Island’s Wildlife Biology and Management program. He then moved to Montana and attended Montana State University, where he completed the Pre-Veterinary curriculum. He then attended Colorado State University, where he received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. He spent the next year practicing general veterinary medicine in Connecticut, and then relocated to Montana, where he spent 5 years working, not only as a general practitioner, but as an emergency veterinarian as well. In 2010, Dr. Wood decided it was time to return to his native state, Rhode Island! He joined the Newport Animal Hospital Team in January of 2011, and we couldn’t be happier! Dr. Wood’s special interests include cruciate ligament repair surgery in dogs, offering both the lateral suture technique as well as the Tibial Tuberosity Advancement (TTA) procedure. Other interests include oncology and chemotherapy, general surgery and pain management.
Nhianh Pasierb, DVM
Originally from the Boston Area, Dr Nhianh (Annie) Pasierb attended Boston University, where she received her bachelor’s degree in both Biology and Mathematics in 2000. After graduation, she attended Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine and received her Doctorate in 2006. She continued her education with a rotating internship at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston. She spent the following three years on active duty as a Captain in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps. After another year in a specialty surgical internship at Sonora Veterinary Specialist in Phoenix, AZ, she decided to move back to the New England area and joined the Newport Animal Hospital Team in December 2012. Her occupational interests include soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, and pain management. She currently resides with her husband, Mark, 2 kids, and a cat named Janie.
Christine Fain, DVM
Originally from Massachusetts, Dr. Fain received her undergraduate degree from Tufts University (1991), and a Master’s degree in Wildlife Biology and Management from Colorado State University (1995). From there, she entered Colorado State’s Veterinary program where she received her DVM in 1999. Her current veterinary interests include emergency medicine, reproduction, infectious disease and soft tissue injury. Outside of work she enjoys sailing, skiing, hiking and just about any outdoor activity. Dr. Fain has always considered it a privilege to be able to serve others through helping their companion animals, and looks forward to building relationships with her clients and their pets each day.
Matilyn Shields, DVM
Dr. Matilyn Shields, who was born and raised in the Virginia Beach area, attended Virginia Commonwealth University where she received a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology. Dr. Shields then attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts, completed her clinical year at Louisiana State University, and upon graduation, relocated to Rhode Island. She has occupational interests in Preventive and Integrative Medicine, Diagnostic Imaging, and Internal Medicine. Dr. Shields currently lives with her partner, Ford, and their cats, Shrimp and Tuna.
Lindsay Bosworth, DVM
Dr. Lindsay Bosworth was born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida. She relocated to the northeast to attend the University of New Hampshire where she majored in Biomedical Sciences with a focus in Medical and Veterinary Sciences. She then received her DVM from the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, and moved to Rhode Island shortly after graduating. During school Dr. Bosworth was interested in wildlife and zoo medicine as well as small animal medicine. Since practicing she has found special interests in preventative medicine and client education, dermatology, and pain management. She is fear free certified and passionate about creating stress free veterinary visits for her patients.
